The lyrics
Verse 1Got a postcard in my mailbox, prettiest you’ve seen
Our pier and our palm trees, blue water and green
Said “Vote YES on One through Eight,” so glossy and so nice
Then I flipped that baby over and I had to read it twice
Pre-chorusNot from my neighbor, not from my street
Not from a guy I’d ever meet…
ChorusGlossy mail from Tallahassee, never touched our sand
Payin’ big to change a town they’ll never understand
We live here, we vote here, so let’s make it crystal clear:
Vote NO on all eight, ’cause that money’s not from here! (Hey!)Verse 2Suite One on East Park Avenue, three hundred miles away
Nine hundred forty-three grand came in a single day
Not one neighbor chipped in, not one single dime
Just committees payin’ committees, all the time
Pre-chorusNot from the condo, not from the shore
Not from anybody next door…
ChorusGlossy mail from Tallahassee, never touched our sand
Payin’ big to change a town they’ll never understand
We live here, we vote here, so let’s make it crystal clear:
Vote NO on all eight, ’cause that money’s not from here! (Hey!)BridgeThey wanna slow your petition, stretch the Mayor to four
Send our ethics up to Tallahassee, nobody local anymore
They cut the time you gotta live here before you run the show…
So when they say “common sense,” we say: No! No! No!
Final chorusGlossy mail from Tallahassee, never touched our sand
Payin’ big to change a town they’ll never understand
We live here, we vote here, we’ll be here every year
Vote NO on all eight, ’cause that money’s not from here!OutroNot from here… (not from here!)
Never touched our sand… (not from here!)
Keep your glossy mail, Tallahassee…
We’ve got a beach to protect.
